Summer Knitting With Deramores

Blooming Fiction, Summer Knitting With Deramores

When you think of knitting you may think armchair, mug of tea, something good on the tele and a nice roaring fire. But knitting, as I've recently discovered, is just as stylish and on point in the summer too.

Nautical is definitely a theme I adore in the warmer months, as well as being an iconic bathroom feel. The colours as so well accentuated ( big word! ) in the sun and the navy / white theme just looks good wherever you put it.

Over the duration of three weeks ( could have been less had it been for my lovely little lady ), I engaged on my first ever knitting project using circular needles. I was terrified when I bought my needle from John Lewis but once I got started the method is actually quite easy. And I'm left wondering why I've not tried this way before.

This super nautical themed cushion cover is actually one from a set of three designs which all follow the navy / white trait. On completion of the cover it's a lot bigger than I envisaged and it's a pain I couldn't get hold of the right size cushion pad ... but I absolutely love it!

The cover is designed to stretch over a 56 cm x 56 cm cushion pad ( I could only get hold of a 52 which is why it's a bit baggy ) and it's evidently a really good and generous size since it's bigger than my chair!

The knitting pattern was really easy to follow as it's only really on main stitch the whole way through apart from when you reach the flap. Just knitting round and round in circles until the end is a nice easy project which you can do while watching something like Britain's Got Talent or Poldark.

The wool I've used for the nautical cushion cover is the Studio Anti Pilling Chunky from Deramores. Quite soft and comfortable to knit, this wool feels like a really good quality which barely snagged on the needles. There were a few tiny tufty bits along the line but this didn't hamper the design or knitting experience at all.

In order to complete the knitting project you need five balls of yarn. For this particular cushion cover I needed three of the navy and two of the white. The 50 gram balls unravel easily for a seamless knit and makes the project altogether very relaxing .. unless if you have an 11 month old pulling all the strands out of the balls before you started using them. :)

I'd highly recommend this knitting project for any beginner or improving knitters who love a bit of nautical or are looking to spruce up some old cushions.

If you like this Deramores pattern you can buy it from the Deramores website, along with the wool needed to complete it.
